The dig Domain Information Groper command is a DNS lookup utility. Install dig on Ubuntu and Debian sudo apt update sudo apt install dnsutils. The dig tool can be installed using the distros package manager.

This command is part of the realmd package that we added. Its not a shell built-in its not a core utility and POSIX doesnt know anything about it. Define a domain from an XML file but do not start the domain. We can use the list subcommand to ensure that we are not currently part of a domain.
